Room Tour #2: Learning Targets

"I Can..."
I know my students are learning in Art class. I just don't think THEY know that they are learning in Art class.

One of my goals this year is to make the learning process more transparent to my students. I want them to see how I develop a lesson, how we set goals at the beginning of each project, how as the project progresses their skills are developing, and how we all assess their learning at the end.

I've posted Goal Sheets for each project on one of my bulletin boards and this week, I had each class add to the "I can..." statements. Each group was really insightful! They came away with a much better understanding of what we are learning and why we are learning it.
I actually tried this last year and it totally bombed! I had preprinted all the goals on cute paper and put them on the wall when we finished a project. Well.....we never even looked at them! What a waste of cute paper! This year, by having the kids help write them out, the goals become more interactive and engaging.

I always want my students to enjoy their experience in the Art room, but now I feel like they can enjoy it on a deeper level.
What are we learning about in Art?

Happy Monday!

Hopefully, by keeping it simple, it can evolve as needed!
